Body

Overview

Your password protects access to student information, district systems, and your work data. Strong passwords stop attackers who use tools to try millions of guesses per second.

Target Audience: Staff

District Password Rules

  • Minimum 8 characters
  • Must include letters and numbers
  • Special characters are not required, but highly encouraged
  • Password change required every 12 months

Recommended for Better Security

Even though 8 characters is the minimum:

  • Use 12-15+ characters when possible
  • Try several random words together to create a passphrase!
    • Example: Cactus!River9Books
  • Add special characters when you can ( ! @ # & ? etc.)
  • Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when prompted
  • Longer = stronger

What NOT to do

  • Don’t reuse the same password anywhere else
  • Don’t use names, pets, school names, birthdays
  • Don’t write passwords on sticky notes
  • Don’t share your password — not even with IT
